Suicide Prevention Training

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR)

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.

A gatekeeper is someone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. Gatekeepers can be anyone, but include parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, ministers, doctors, nurses, office supervisors, police officers, firefighters, and many others who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide. As a QPR-trained Gatekeeper you will learn to:

  • Recognize the warning signs of suicide

  • Know how to offer hope

  • Know how to get help and save a life

To request a QPR training, fill out our presentation request form. All participants receive an official certificate.

ASIST Training

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don't need any formal training to attend the workshop—anyone 16 or older can learn and use the ASIST model. ASIST is typically more appropriate for professionals who are currently working with individuals who may be thinking about suicide. The Help Center periodically offers this training. Please email us to learn of any upcoming training.

Please fill out this form to register for an upcoming ASIST or to have your name on the list to be contacted when we schedule a training.

THANK YOU for taking the time to visit with our participants. You are all SO wonderful at holding comfortable space for people. The Help Center is the most valuable/important resource in our community and I cannot thank you enough for your hearts and service.  Remember to take care of yourselves! Loads of love from Big Sky Youth Empowerment to you & your team.
